Book review
The Knife of Never Letting Go
Patrick Ness
Teen fiction, first book of Chaos Walking series, for readers over 14.
How does a boy become a man? Todd, is turning 13 next month, a normal teenage boy with a dog by his side going to pick apples for his guardian. His village is populated by men, only men. A disease wiped out all the women and left the men broadcasting all their thoughts aloud. When Todd encounters a silence in the swamp behind the town, his old life is over. Part sci-fi, part non-stop chase, part coming of age, all compelling. Somewhat similar to The Golden Compass, fast-paced, emotional, with a dark tone, you are racing along side the narrator, just hoping.
