Mystery series I like
(set in Great Britain)

Deborah Crombie
Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series
A Share in Death
Set in contemporary London, Duncan and Gemma are police detectives who happen to be in love. I like this one because of the relationships and the stories that focus on different areas of Britain.

Charles Todd
Ian Rutledge series
A Test of Wills
Rutledge is a WWI veteran now a Scotland Yard detective, but he is haunted by another presence, Hamish MacLeod, a man he ordered shot during the war. This series is set in 1919, the detective is a fractured man burdened with memories, trying to find some peace. Dark, emotionally compelling but not graphically violent. I feel immersed in the time period.

Reginald Hill
Dalziel and Pascoe series
Here's a link that explains better than I can. Just wonderful but everyone's taste is their own.

Jacqueline Winspear
Maisie Dobbs series
Maisie Dobbs
Set in 1929 England, Maisie is opening a detective agency and remembering the war.
